Lou’s Place

November 2018

Lou’s Place is the only daytime refuge for women in Sydney. We're a unique, community-based refuge for women in crisis, homeless, feeling isolated or needing support. Women can come to our terrace house in Kings Cross to rest, eat, shower, wash clothes and enjoy some company. Lou’s Place also offers critical frontline services for women confronting the issues of: homelessness, domestic violence, mental health and addiction. Lou's Place is a private charity with no on-going government funding. We rely on the generous support of our friends, partners and volunteers to continue our services.

Our mission is to provide a safe and welcoming place for women, meeting them at their point of need and supporting them in rebuilding their lives.

About Lou’s Place

Lou's Place opened in Kings Cross in April 1999 to provide support for women in need and help them rebuild their lives.

We're a daytime refuge; we offer a wide range of services, facilities and programs in an atmosphere of acceptance and respect.

Our capacity to provide our services in a warm, supportive environment is a significant strength. It allows us to take a holistic approach to addressing the complex problems that women may face.

Lou's Place is a community of many parts: the women who arrive looking for a safe place, The Marmalade Foundation which founded and operates Lou's Place, our small professional team of full-time staff, our ambassadors, friends, supporters and donors.

We advocate for the women who visit us and we network with service agencies and providers to achieve the best outcomes for them.

We promote awareness of women's issues and we're represented at board level by our senior staff on several organisations providing services to women in need.
